A two-sided coaching platform for CodeDr, where people who want to be guided meet people running coaching as work.
Mentees wanted someone to hold their hand. Mentors wanted a business to run.
The brief sounded like a matching problem. It turned out to be a problem of two audiences whose definitions of a good session had almost nothing in common.
Mentees weren’t shopping for expertise. They wanted someone to walk them through something, book it easily, and leave with materials. Mentors were running a side business and needed the admin not to swallow the time they were selling.
One product, two people with opposite relationships to the same session. Almost every decision here is a ruling on that tension.
Five interviews and a competitor teardown. A small sample, treated as directional.
Asked to be hand-held. Their word, more than once. Book one-to-one or group time easily, know what a session covers before paying, come away with materials.
Coaching was rarely anyone’s only job. See the week at a glance, set availability once and have it hold, and get money out without chasing it.
Five areas, following the trip from finding a coach to getting paid.
The directory leads with the person, not the credential. Photograph, country, what they help with, and the languages they speak. Category tabs run across the top, because people arrive knowing the area before they know the person.
Programmes answer “what will actually happen in these sessions.” Price, session count and enrolment sit on the card; the detail view lists every session, what is included, and the documents you leave with.
Three steps with a visible progress rule: details, method, then the fields. Confirmation is a screen rather than a toast, because this is the moment people screenshot.
A quarter of calendar with the availability panel pinned beside it, so setting hours and seeing the consequence happen in one view. Public holidays come from the coach’s location automatically.
Withdrawal methods, a default, auto-withdrawal above a threshold, a minimum per transaction. The least glamorous screen in the product and the one mentors asked about most.
Shipped as v1. The landing page is live; the web app is in development.
Designed end to end, marketing site, mentee experience, coach experience, and the settings that hold both together.
Five interviews was enough to find the two-sided tension and not enough to price it. I never tested whether coaches would accept the admin the platform asks of them in exchange for the earnings it promises, and that trade is the whole business model.
